How to Get Motivated to Cook Every Day

People spend around a third of their budget at home on convenience foods like ready-to-eat meals and takeaway meals. There are a lot of reasons behind this. Some people now live busier lives, so they simply don’t have the energy or time to cook anymore.
Unfortunately, these kinds of foods can be quite pricey. Plus, they can be full of salt and fat, to boot. So, even if you are lacking in time, you might want to find the motivation to cook somehow.
One of the secrets to motivating yourself to cook everyday would be to stock up on long-life ingredients, which you can combine in different ways to cook interesting dishes.
Here are some suggestions:

  • Buy a lot of long-lasting vegetables, such as potatoes, onions and carrots, so you can use them to make casseroles or soups.
  • Stock up on dried goods, like pine nuts, sun-dried tomatoes, shitake mushrooms and curry powder.
  • Stock up on vinegars and oils, like olive oil, red wine vinegar, sesame oil and balsamic vinegar. You can use these things to make marinades and salad dressing. Just add some lemon juice and herbs to the mix.
  • Keep various long-life carbohydrates handy, such as different varieties of rice.
  • Have tins of legumes available at all times, like three bean mix, kidney beans and chick peas.
  • Have packet soups and canned soups ready, preferably the non-salted varieties.
  • Stock up on canned fish for variety, like tuna, sardines and salmon.
  • Store various nuts, which make for great meat alternatives in rice and pasta dishes.
  • Stock up on dried herbs, like basil, mint, coriander, thyme, mixed herbs and oregano.
  • Stock up on dried pasta, like spaghetti, spiral macaroni and fettuccini.
  • Have a lot of useful condiments handy, like tomato sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, ready-made stock, chili sauce, stock cubes and soy sauce.
  • Use tomato paste, tinned tomatoes, and tinned corn for soups, casseroles or pasta sauces.

If you are still having trouble finding motivation to cook everyday, then you might want to try something new altogether. Try picking up food magazines and looking through them, for example, or check out exciting and colorful cookbooks for a change. Basically, just try to find some new way to look at cooking in a fun manner all over again. Once you get into the fun groove of it again, you may stop looking at it as a boring daily disciple to follow and find yourself enjoying the activity like never before.
Of course, this would only be the beginning, though. You will have to keep changing things up every now and then in order to stay in the cooking groove, so never stop making those necessary changes for the utmost motivation.
